For the second day in Barcelona, we decided to stay at a much nicer hotel, namely ME Barcelona on the Diagonal avenue, another hotel booked thru Mr & Mrs Smith, which saw us being upgraded from a Supreme Room City View (between the 7th and 20th floors), to a Level Room City View (floors 20-28) and get a room on the 27th floor.

And if you’ve ever wondered what may be the view from the 27th floor, here is an inkling…

When in Rome… Well, when in Barcelona, you will have to go and visit “La Boqueria“, which is a covered market on the Ramblas. It is full of colours and great fresh produce. But it is also famous for its tapas. The “Bar Central” towards the far end, is a mere counter surrounded by bar stools, and it is difficult to find spaces… but once you get one, you can expect to eat some of the best tapas in Barcelona. We tucked into the best “chipirones” I ate in a long time, tortilla & asparagus, for a fraction of the cost you pay elsewhere. Great for lunchtime.

We stayed in the same hotel (Hotel Fornos) I had stayed in the previous week for the footie game, overlooking the Ramblas, a bit noisy, but you cannot beat the price. That day was supposed to help us discover the city a bit. Met my cousin and family for a drink in Plaza Real.

This is one of those place abroad, that are famous because the locals still go there to eat. “Xarcuteria” (c/Del Pi 16) opened in 1930, still sells meat, but also everything Spanish/Catalan, and best of all, there is a sitting area at the back, where you can eat “raciones” (mixed plate of meats) rather than tapas, and drink wine or sangria for a reasonable price. Highly recommended. Try the excellent “pan con tomate” with your tapas! Price: under €20.

Stopped there on our way to Barcelona, and back… nice house for a big family, and so close from the sea.

Columbia Road flower market is very popular in the East end, and also all over London. It is open between 8am and 2pm every Sunday. Check this references [1] & [2]. We arrived there at 9am this morning, it is a short taxi ride from Liverpool Street station or Old street tube station. Try and arrive early cause by 11am the place was nearly too busy already.
