Jean-Luc,
Sorry, I’m not sending this to you from your FrenchGunner Blog, but the CAPTCHA Code security feature wasn’t working. It wasn’t working on your photography site either, which is why I’m using the comment feature. Hopefully you’ll get this and can email me back.
I am from America and am visiting the UK in another 10 days. I’ll be going to the Fulham match and will be seated in Section 112, Row 19, Seat 579. The club website says that “Cameras and video cameras are allowed to be brought into the Stadium but due to copyright laws they can not be used when players are on the pitch. This also includes the players warm up session.”
How do you get around this? Do you have a press pass? You get great shots from the matches you attend. I’m going to renting a zoom lens for my Canon Rebel XTi and don’t want to get in chucked out by the stewards or have my camera confiscated either.
Any advice on this?
Many thanks!
Hi John
Don’t be sorry ! Thanks for letting me know about the non working Captchas
I have hopefully fixed that now, needed to make a folder writable …
About your query… Well… This is all a grey area. I have been told off before for taking pictures at the Emirates after Kick Off. The main thing is to avoid being seen by the stewards, and you should be fine. I never had a problem getting my camera big or small into the stadium, as the guys at the gate will search for bombs mainly, and if you actually tell them you have a camera in there, they do not say anything.
I would advise against bringing in a massive lens. I use the Nikon D90 + 80-200mm of my girlfriend at the moment, and when the lens is at rest it looks quite small. At 200mm it looks much bigger. If I was to bring my Nikon D3 + 70-200mm, I’m sure I would be spotted right away.
So again, I have not told you anything, but hopefully you will be seated away from the stewards and you should be able to shoot some images. Mind you, block 112 is in the upper tier, and row 19 is quite high too, so you will need at least a 200mm to get anything and the players will look small.
I would advise you to arrive early (half an hour before the game at least), and maybe before heading to your section, stay in the lower tier, block 15 (where I was for the newcastle game is right below 112), nobody will ask you for a proof that you sit there, so get in at entrance 14 or 15, and head straight for the pitch, and stay around row 1 or 2 like if your seat was there. The team always come out to warm up before the game and runs around that area. The players will be two yards away. Plenty of snapping opportunities for you. Then you can head to your seat maybe 10 minutes before the game.
Another thing worth noting. Not everybody turn up at games, and there are often unoccupied seats. So from your high position try and spot seats unoccupied in the lower tier during the first half, if they stay unoccupied for the first half, there is a big chance they will be for the second half, and at half time just make your way to them. In the unlikely event the owner gets there in the second half, you can go back to your seat.
Hope I answered your question well
Have a good trip and a good game !
Cheers
Jean-Luc
Jean-Luc,
Thanks for the good advice! I’ll be sure to check out the lower tier for some better views.
Cheers,
John
