As a Cambridge wedding photographer, I have captured many weddings at Anstey Hall over the years. I have a good rapport with the team there, and the owner has always got time for a little chat. Hence why it’s always a pleasure to be booked as an Anstey Hall wedding photographer. I photographed the wedding of Kristen and Nils at Anstey Hall in Trumpington, just two miles from the city of Cambridge, in December 2017.
American Kristen and Nils from Germany chose to tie the knot in historic St Mary and St Michael Church, Trumpington for the ceremony. Trumpington is on the edge of Cambridge and features in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, although back in Chaucer’s day it was known as ‘Trompynton’. The church dates way back to the thirteenth century.
The couple decided on a simple and elegant winter wedding, decorating the church with seasonal evergreens and sprigs of holly. Kristen carried a bouquet of green, red and a hint of purple. This English country wedding had touches of the couple’s home countries too, including a wedding cake complete with gingerbread houses.
The historic theme continued in Nils and Kristen’s choice of Anstey Hall for their reception. Anstey Hall was a seventeenth-century country house, more recently converted into a hotel and wedding venue. The building has kept all its original charm, including the antique furniture, it really does feel like you’re stepping back in time. Anstey Hall is just down the lane from St Mary and St Michael Church, so it was a quick stroll on this crisp winter day from the church to the reception.
Even the famous English weather was kind to Kristen and Nils, giving me a chance to photograph the couple on the veranda against a cobalt-blue sky with fluffy white clouds, just before sunset. But sunset didn’t mean it was the end of the reception. There was plenty of partying still to be done, with the guests having a blast right into the evening. Congratulations Nils and Kristen, for choosing me to be your Anstey Hall wedding photographer, wishing you a long and happy marriage!
