When Christina and Jason contacted me to inquire about my availability to be their Childerley wedding photographer, having been recommended to them by a friend we have in common, I was very happy to be back to take pictures at this wedding venue after almost 10 years. Chiderley is a great and versatile venue, with a main imposing brick house and a long barn where most of the big day events take place. The mature gardens are superb in any season and there is also a lake. I was also told that if the weather was not to be as nice as expected, the little chapel in the gardens would be used as a drink’s reception venue. Perfect.
The rain was forecast but it did not dampen the wedding day mood at all. We managed to dodge the showers and come out in between so as to get great pictures in the gardens.
The wedding ceremony took place inside the magnificent Long Barn. Not so many barns remain in Cambridgeshire these days. But this one is very special. It has kept many of its original features and it feels humbling to stand in this place. The sheer height and size of the building are very unique. The ceremony was full of emotion and laughter and perfect for creating beautiful memories through my eyes and my lens.
From the barn, the guests made their way to the gardens, situated at the back of the main brick house. A lovely Spanish cava was served for guests on the lawn to enjoy after the traditional confetti throw. I really love that particular moment on the wedding day, as people are relaxed and their smile comes out, the portraits I capture then are the most informal and natural.
It started to rain in the middle of the drink reception but the light drizzle only made people retreat to the lovely tiny chapel set in the grounds by the lake. There the bride threw her bouquet to the female guests and more cava was drunk. I also captured intimate family photos upstairs, of the bride and groom and both their families.
We then moved to the long barn again for dinner, speeches, and the long-awaited dancing and it was a lovely end of the day.
Congratulations to Christina and Jason for getting married in such a great wedding venue. If you’re planning to get married at Childerley, Cambridge do not hesitate to inquire about my availability as I would jump at the chance to be a Childerley wedding photographer again!
