When Rachel and David contacted me to inquire about whether I would be available to be their Corpus Christi college Cambridge wedding photographer, I could not help but smile. Indeed this particular Cambridge college holds a very special place in my heart, for it was the location of my very own wedding. I always relish the opportunity to photograph Cambridge wedding photography at this location. The chapel is fabulous as is the dining hall, and the staff are ever so friendly.
The wedding ceremony was to be held at St Mark’s in Newnham, just a short walk across the park from the river Cam and Corpus a little further away. The day had not started with the best weather, but we mostly managed to avoid getting drenched. Most of the guests went into the Red Bull pub nearby to avoid the rain where I did take some candid images of some of them. The ceremony was really nice, despite the fact that I was not allowed by the altar, I managed to capture most of the action from the back and the balcony.
Once the ceremony over, all the church guests gathered in the church tearoom at the back for a deserved afternoon tea.
Then everyone walked the short distance across Fens Causeway via The Mill Pond, and The Mill Pub and onto Trumpington street and the college. Because of the uncertain weather, the drinks reception was held in the Old Combination room, which I have to say can become a bit cramped and make candid photography a challenge when too many people are gathered there. I managed to get the couple out for some creative couple photographs, and we decided to capture the few formal group photos inside the Chapel as it was dry and full of light.
The wedding breakfast was then served into the amazingly decorated dining hall, where I was free to shoot more informal and candid images lit by candlelight, it’s always a very relaxed period of the day as most of the guests let their hair down a bit and it makes for very natural and happy photographs.
The speeches and the cutting of the cake followed each other in quick succession, and I still managed to whisk the couple away to the Old Court for some creative sunset photography, which came out rather well, as the clouds had blown away.
And the day was more or less soon over after some wild dancing.
Congratulations to Rachel and David for getting married in such a lovely wedding venue. If you’re planning to get married at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, do not hesitate to inquire about my availability as I love to be a Corpus Christi college Cambridge wedding photographer again!
