When Gaby and Mark asked me to be their Pembroke College wedding photographer on 14th July 2018, I was very happy to be back to capture a wedding at such a great venue, Pembroke always feels tucked away from prying eyes, but what a great college and a vibrant place it is, with its fabulous gardens and grand architecture.
Both Gaby and Mark are American and Mark had been a student at Pembroke College a few years before the wedding. Pembroke College is a special wedding venue for lots of reasons, one of those being you need to be student, ex-student or member of staff to be married there.
Pembroke is the earliest Cambridge College to survive today on its original site and was founded in 1347 by the Countess of Pembroke. This makes it a spectacular location for both a wedding and me as a wedding photographer. Just take a look at the beautiful stained glass and library!
Gaby wore a gown with a full skirt and lace bodice in ivory, which looked amazing against her red hair. The bridesmaids wore contrasting dresses in bold blue, green and red. An unusual touch maybe, but one that worked well. The flowers were in subtle shades of pink, purple and peach. The men all looked dapper in blue bow ties, apart from Mark who wore black.
The ceremony took place in Pembroke’s wood-panelled chapel. Afterwards, the wedding party walked out into the summer evening sunshine of the Old Court with its immaculate lawn. Then came champagne and a chance for me to take more photos – what a wonderful gateway – followed by Gaby and Mark’s wedding breakfast in the hall. The wedding cake matched Gaby’s dress and bouquet perfectly!
The ceremony was at five pm, making the wedding day quite a short affair, but the guests were lovely, and I loved the photos I took there.
Congratulations to Gaby and Mark, I hope they have many happy years together. And if you would like a Pembroke College wedding photographer for your own wedding please do give me a call.
