I was asked to capture the dress rehearsal of the Handel’s opera: Rodelinda staged by the Cambridge Handel Opera Company (CHOC) at the Great Hall in The Leys School in Cambridge. The performances then took place between 3 – 7 April 2018. Conducted by Julian Perkins (CHOC’s Artistic Director). Max Hoehn was the stage director. I was also asked to capture as many “behind the scenes” shots as possible, mainly of the orchestra playing in the pit in front of the stage. The cast was: Alice Privett as Rodelinda, William Towers as Bertarido, William Wallace as Grimoaldo, Ida Ränzlöv as Eduige, Nicholas Morris as Garibaldo and Tom Scott-Cowell as Unulfo.
This particular shoot was very challenging because of the lighting conditions. Fortunately, my camera can handle low light very well, and it responded well to the conditions. After the shoot, the post-processing stage was very important as it helped lift a bit more light from those very dark images. If you have any opera dress rehearsal that you would like photographed, do not hesitate to contact me. I would love to be given the chance to capture such images again.
